Why People Love Pet CBD

There are quite a bit of pet owners around the world that absolutely love to give their furry friends pet CBD. There is a good reason for this too. It turns out that the same beneficial components that CBD has to offer people, transfer over to dogs, cats, horses, and other animals as well. What exactly is CBD and why is everybody using it? Let’s help you to get a better understanding of how CBD works.

What is Pet CBD?

To be completely clear about what CBD is, and how it works you have to understand that pet CBD is no different than any other type of CBD. CBD is CBD, and that is just the way it is. Although different companies may market their CBD products as different than any other products because they can do so by adding additives to the product or making the strength of the available CBD within the product less than it would be for a human product the truth is that there is no special CBD for animals.

CBD AKA Cannabidiol

CBD is a cannabinoid that is present in the hemp plant. Just like its cousin THC, it is a compound within the plant that is there because, scientists believe, it helps to protect the plant from harm and help it to carry on forward with multiplying and carrying on the evolutionary genus of cannabis.

Humans, animals, and most everything else that has a spine with a central nervous system has what is known as an endocannabinoid system. What this means, in simple terms, is that our bodies create compounds that are very similar to the cannabinoids that are found in the hemp plant. Since they are our own, self-generated cannabinoids they are called endocannabinoids. In any event, this endocannabinoid system communicates throughout our entire bodies by having endocannabinoid receptors throughout our nervous systems.

This endocannabinoid system helps to keep the entire body in balance and within a state of homeostasis. It is within this communication and task of balance that scientists believe that CBD communicates with the body and has the power to initiate states of calmness, wellness, and relaxation.

Where THC directly attaches itself to the endocannabinoid receptors and controls the receptor itself, CBD gently communicates with the receptors and influences them whether to send a message or not send a message.

There is still a ton of learning that researchers have to do in order to get a complete understanding of the way that CBD works within the body, however, they are confident that they will have the answers that we are all looking for someday.

Pet Treats with CBD

During the shelter-in-place orders that came with the COVID pandemic, many of the people that usually celebrate Independence Day and the New Year out in the world with other people lighting fireworks chose to celebrate at home with their own illegal fireworks. Anybody that has ever experienced a ton of illegal fireworks blowing up like bombs around dogs or cats that are afraid of the noise knows that this kind of disturbance can cause problems for pets. What had happened during the holiday times is that many of the pet stores in the major cities across the country ran out of CBD pet treats.

The reason why so many people wanted the pet treats is that since the CBD works with the body’s own endocannabinoid system it suggests that CBD can have a calming and relaxing effect on people and animals. What many people don’t understand is that they probably could have just given them a couple of drops of their own CBD tincture.

Does CBD Help Pets?

Since every pet is different, and each one will have its own sensitivities and strengths it is always best to get the opinion of a professional before you administer anything to your pet that could cause it problems. CBD can conflict with various types of pharmaceuticals so if your pet is on any medications, you definitely have to ask your vet if it is OK for it to use CBD.
